Lady B Bless talks with Jeck PiLPiL
1. What is the meaning of your name?
My Full name is Jerico Llenos Pilpil, Jeck is my Nickname. I dont have any special meaning to my name. Just being myself.
2. What does your music bring to the reggae genre?
Roots, Island, Reggae music from 7,107 Islands. Our riddms has a mixture of Fiesta-Island vibe with conscious & spiritual lyrical form. I epitomizes the message of the reggae vibe - social, political, and spiritual awakening. I'm also trying to show and expressed the opulent culture of the Filipino race, the signature songs we've been known for. We are one of the few Artists who put emphasis on the rich Filipino culture and utmost respect to mother nature.
3. Who influenced you? And what is your motivation?
My main influenced as a musician is my father Pepito Pilpil, he used to play in a classic rock band 1960's-1970's, and my Grandmother who taught my father how to play guitar and managed them at the same time. My Mother is a folk singer, My Sister is Pianist, my brother Jason is Bassist, and my younger Brother Jon is a Keyboardist and a Reggae Artist, music runs in our family and they are my main influences that keeps me playing and sharing my God given talent to everyone. I grew up searching for a better way and rational things to do in life, music became my home, my life and my passion. Now my biggest motivation came when my Son Jacob Zion Pilpil came into my life, the first time I saw him I promised my self that I will do everyhting to keep him safe & loved, let's just say that I just want him to have a bright future. And so my music is motivated with life and love. With our country's corrupt political system, third world country problems, I was driven by the militant stand of Reggae music. My home is my Music and it's my way to say things that I know will bringforth God's wisdom, Peace & freedom that starts from within, and it's the only magical way you can transcend messages and at the same time to entertain.
Reggae in general, I was influenced and first struck by the thundering voice and lyrics of Robert Nesta Marley, Bob Marley & The Wailers. I was moved with his songs like Africa Unite, One Drop, Who The Cap Fit, Thank You Lord, Zimbabwe and a lot more. As I grew up I started to listen to Lucky Dube, Majek Fashek, Gregory Isaac, Peter Tosh, Buju Banton and many more. From Reggae, Dancehall, Dub, Ska and World Music they all stumped my feet and moved I up to this day.
4. What do you see as the future of reggae and music in general?
I see a bright future with Reggae Music all over the world, especially in our country right now where the kids and the youths are starting to get into the conscious-vibe and it's spiritual awakening. Reggae, Dancehall and Dub Artists are all over the archipelago. Reggae Music for the People, Reggae Music as a Watch-Dog in the society.
Music in general, I think there are a lot of things that needs to be fixed and needs to be done with the so-called "Show Business" in the music industry, where they focused on business side before the show or music content.
5. Playing or recording what do you prefer?
Recording is magical where you can create and put your artistic side on a song, but I prefer Playing live where you can fully share your music to the audience. It's hard to fully develop and maintain a good live act, that's why I think it's better to play more on gigs and develop your own style of playing a song, that is different from the ones you've recorded. Which makes it more interesting and challenging on the musicians part.
6. Please tell the folks what you would like them to know.
Greetings in abundance of Peace, Love & Unity. I, Jeck Pilpil from 7,107 Islands Philippines just wanted to share my humble music to one and all. You can please listen to some of my tracks at zimcaribradio.com or to my profiles posted below, Jah Live & Bless.
